English–Esperanto
really in Esperanto
“really” in Esperanto is Vere.
Vere.
/ˈve.re/
“Really” in Esperanto is vere (VEH-reh), from vera “true”. It works as “truly” in a sentence, as in ReVo’s mi ne vere parolas la lingvon, mi ĝin komprenas “I don’t really speak the language, I only understand it”. To react with surprise, ask Ĉu vere? (choo VEH-reh) “Really?”
Other ways to say it
- Ĉu vere?Really? (surprise)
- Ĉu serioze?Seriously?
- Efektive.Indeed.
- Ĉu veras?Is it true? / Really?
Example sentences
- Ĉu vere? Kial?Really? Why?
- Ĉu vere? Mi ne rimarkis.Seriously? I haven’t noticed.

Ĉu is the word that turns a statement into a yes/no question, so Ĉu vere? literally asks “whether truly?”. ReVo also has vere bela plezuro! “a truly lovely pleasure!”
